Well On Our Way To 100% of Staff Obtaining Their MHFA Certificate!

In July last year, Dynamic Ability Support set a goal to have 100% of our staff trained in Standard Mental Health First Aid.  We did this because ‘1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year’ and we felt the effects covid-19 was having on our community. We are all likely know someone who is experiencing or has experienced mental health problems. A Certificate in Standard Mental Health First Aid provides practical skills to assess and respond to someone experiencing a mental health crisis. It benefits all of our community.

We are proud to say, we have nearly 95% of staff currently trained and this number is growing! The Standard MHFA course equips our team with the skills to assist adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. We train new and existing staff monthly, over two days, with more than 12 hours of content. A Certificate in MHFA is valid for 3 years after which a refresher course can be completed to recertify. If you’d like to learn more about it please drop us an email at info@dasnsw.com.au.

Meet Nikki

Nikki is our phenomenal in-house MHFA Trainer. She completed her MHFA training and assessor qualification in June 2022 and began teaching our team in July. As a previous teacher and staff trainer Nikki has always had a passion for teaching and learning. This background, along with certain life experiences, drives a passion for sharing Mental Health First Aid with others. Nikki has felt first hand how the training benefits her work as a Support Worker with DAS too, and now many staff do as well. Nikki says,

“ The more people who are educated in Mental Health and MHFA the better. It’s sharing knowledge and experiences and therefore spreading love across all communities. The aim being that as many people as possible are supported to experience positive mental health."

We agree with Nikki and are so grateful to have an in-house trainer with the passion, skills and experience Nikki does.  Our whole team, participants and community benefit from it.
